We are diminishing our planets limited natural resources while at the same time degrading humanities life support systems. The Earth is rapidly approaching or has already passed several environmental thresholds or (tipping points). Crossing these thresholds could cause irreversible damage to our planets life sustaining eco-system and threaten the quality of life for our children and grandchildren. No other single factor is more detrimental to our environmental sustainability as as our demand for meat, dairy, fish, and eggs and the agricultural systems that support these products. Animal agriculture puts a heavy strain on many of the Earth’s limited land, water and energy resources. By 2050, consumption of meat products is expected to rise 76% and consumption of dairy products is expected to rise 64%. Which will further increase the burden from these industries on our planets limited resources. The increasing rates at which we are consuming meat and dairy is unsustainable. We are destroying the habitability of our planet! According to the Global Footprint Network, it would require more than 1.7 Earths to sustain what we are currently taking from, and doing to our planet.
